Outstanding 7-9am Show
The hosts of the 7-9 am shows get up very early and are responsible for getting listeners out of their beds in a relaxed, non stressful manner. It’s a good thing all of our hosts of these slots are also relaxed, not stressed people.

Outstanding Wake up Western Show – Weekdays 9am-11am
The 9-11 shows are characterized by fun hosts, peppy music, plus in studio performances and lots of interviews, often with a Western focus.

Aside from holding the responsibility of getting listeners home without driving into the back of a bus, the 330 -6 shows often feature interviews, performances and trainees.

The weekend and evening open format hosts are often the specialists to the during-the-week show’s generalists. These hosts ensure that CHRW keeps rocking all hours of the week.

Specialty show hosts are experts in their genre. A lot of times the hosts are involved in a particular scene as a musician, or promoter.

The music on the Electronic shows on CHRW ranges from dance floor fillers to blip and bloopy to spacey and airy. One thing that remains constant, you will definitely hear something that you have never heard before.

The rhythmic shows on CHRW definitely know a thing or two about dropping a beat. You can always tell these shows are on when you come to CHRW as you can feel the base when you come up the stairs.

Outstanding Multicultural Show
Multicultural shows are a very important part of CHRW’s programming. They allow hosts to reach out to a community that may not otherwise have a voice on the air waves. The multi cultural shows on CHRW are also extremely active during fundraising.

The spoken word shows on CHRW are known for getting to the heart of and exploring an issue or a topic in depth. The shows always feature well informed hosts and interviews.

Outstanding Feedback Show
The feedback shows are a particular breed of spoken word show. Often live, often with callers always with guests, these shows cover the gamut from politics, environmental issues, gender issues, art and culture and health and relationships.

Kevin Newman - Outstanding Journalist of the Year
These folks are routinely out chasing stories, doing interviews, presenting the news or covering events. This award is named for Kevin Newman CHRW’s first News Director and current anchor of Global National News.

Dan Shulman Outstanding Sportscaster
This award is named for Dan Shulman a CHRW alum who graduated from western in actuarial science and now works for ESPN as a play by play person for NBA, NCAA and major league baseball. He was recently awarded top play by play announcer of the decade.

Kaarlo Koskiala Memorial Award - Outstanding Live Sports Broadcasting
Live sports has been part of CHRW since the beginning of the station. In fact we broadcast football games to a couple of campus buildings by closed circuit even before the station was on the air. Since then, CHRW has carried the broadcasts of thousands of games. We truly are the voice of the Western Mustangs. This award is named after Kaarlo Koskiala who started as a volunteer, became a sports editor then the news director and then the Station Manager. Kaarlo passed away in 2004.
