The Gruesomes - What Wave

It's a beautiful day in the neighbourhood, a beautiful day in the neighbourhood. Could you, would you, be my neighbour? What you got here in your hot little hands is a collection of North American Garage bands compiled by What Wave magazine. How'd this come to be? Well, long about five years ago those two madmen from Og Records were the first interview for two even madder beings from a little rag called What Wave. Over the years, the Og boys loops -men) have concentrated on promoting alternative Canadian sounds on records and tapes, while us What Wavers have spent our spare time writing about rock and roll, including Garage bands from all over the world and occasionally releasing a cassette or two. These pursuits have kept our paths crossing and when time came to unleash a Garage album on Og, What Wave was asked to lend a hand.
Garage music consists of a pretty wyld range of sound and feelings and groups are appearing and disappearing all the time, all over the world. What Wave tries to keep track of all these changes and sometimes even manages to succeed! All of the bands presented on this record have appeared in the pages of What Wave at one time or another, some are perennial faves like U.I.C. and the Gruesomes, and some are new discoveries for us, like the Sporting Bachelors and the Vindicators. Each band has its own unique style and sound. Some of the tunes are hard knife-driven anthems, while others have a more pop influenced sound and still others display a dab of psychedelia - but all meet What Wave's one criterion-they're cool!!!!!!!
So, slip into your old cardigan and settle yourself into our neighbourhood!
